PPC Campaigns are fairly easy to set up, can drive traffic to your site, and are highly trackable. Here’s my top 10 tips for setting up a Google AdWords campaign…
1. Make sure your keywords are very specific to your business or product offering.
2. Avoid general keywords that are too broad or generic. Focus on your target audience and don’t use any keywords which would spill beyond this.
3. Use variations of your chosen keywords. Consider spelling variations, singular or plural variations, alternative phrases etc.
4. Use geographic targeting by using the name of the town or city in which you operate in your keywords.
5. Refine your keywords using keyword matching options. Broad match will pick up any of your keywords in the search term, phrase match requires words to be in the same sequence and exact match means the searcher must use the exact words in the same order you did in order to find you. This assists in niche marketing, and can help eliminate negative keywords. Read Google’s guidelines for more info on matching options.
6. Group your keywords to target specific market groups. This helps to keep your ads relevant and streamlined.
7. Test drive your keywords by typing them into Google and see what you get back. Ads should be similar to what you are offering.
8. Use your keywords in the Google Ad, especially in the top line and make sure your ad gives a clear reason why a user should click on it.
9. Your landing page (destination page) should deliver on your ad’s promise. If you’re advertising a sale or special offer, don’t link it to your general web homepage. Create a specific page for that special offer or discount.
10. Make sure your ad, landing page and creative are all consistant with the message or brand that you’re advertising. Conflicting messages equal lost site visitors.
